The R8 V10, which carries the official title Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro though even Audi refers to it as R8 V10 at times in official documentation, carries a direct injection naturally aspirated V10 good for 525 horses at 8000 rpm and 390 lb-ft. of torque, though the torque peak comes at a stratospheric 6500 rpm.
The powerful V10 is related to the motor used in other Audi V10 models, but it has been updated with Audi’s new FSI direct injection technology which has made its way into nearly the entire model range. The V10 midengine powerplant is mounted behind the rear seats but in front of the rear axle, and Audi boasts of the motor’s 90 degree cylinder angle and dry sump system allowing for as low a center of gravity as possible. The V10 engine itself also only weights 68 pounds more than the current R8’s 8 cylinder motor.
